Dumplings for Dragon Boat Festival 2017

The Dragon Boat Festival, known as Duan Wu Jie (端午节) originated from China. Commemorating Qu Yuan who is a minister and poet in the ancient state of Chu during the Zhou Dynasty, it falls on the 5th day of 5th month on the Chinese lunar calendar. The dragon boat race is a symbolism of how the boats set out to save or retrieve Qu Yuan’s body and the dumplings a symbolism of throwing rice balls into the river to stop the fishes from eating his body.
