SINGAPORE’S LARGEST ANNUAL BOOK AND STATIONERY FESTIVAL RETURNS WITH AN EXCITING LINE UP OF EVENTS FOR ALL THE FAMILY

The festival, BookFest@Singapore, includes new book and product releases, educational talks and appearances by local and overseas authors. There will also be cooking demonstrations and doodling sessions. With the theme, Read on, Dream on the festival encourages reading without boundaries, inspiring guests to open their mind to limitless dreams and possibilities.

The event takes place from 12th to 21st December at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. It is organised by the book store, Popular, which this year celebrates its 90th anniversary. There will be an exhibition highlighting Popular’s 90-year journey. Guests can walk back in time to see how the bookstore landscape in Singapore has changed over the years.

Malaysian celebrity Dato’ Chef Wan will be holding a meet and greet session on 13th December. He will be talking about his latest cookbook 400 Resipi Terbaik. He will also be judging the Chef Wan Cooking Challenge, which takes place on 14th December.

The winner of the Popular Readers’ Choice Awards 2014 prize will be revealed at a ceremony on 13th December. Thirty books by local authors have been nominated for the awards. Guests can also watch the final of the National Chinese Creative Reading Competition, an initiative which encourages young people to speak and immerse themselves in the Chinese language.

Popular is also holding a colouring contest based on the TV series The Journey: A Voyage. The competition is open to children aged seven to nine years old. A giant comic book on the drama series will also be on display.

Ms Lim Lee Ngoh, Executive Director of Popular, said: ‘Promoting a reading and learning culture has always been one of our main objectives as it can greatly enrich one’s life. We hope many people will enjoy the numerous activities that we have planned.’
