WD TV MEDIA PLAYER SIMPLIFIES CONTENT PLAYBACK ON ANY TV

We recently got our hands on the new WD TV Media Player (WD TV) and were delighted to play with this simple and easy to use device from Wester Digital.

The WD TV boasts that it is ‘the simplified way to playback of personal content on ANY TV’, this is true, not only is the Media Play simple to use and has easy to navigate menus, the user does need to possess a Smart TV.  We found that the WD TV Media Player can actually turn any normal TV into, in effect, a Smart TV.  The WD TV Media Player is wireless, comes pre-loaded with useful apps allowing the user to easily stream hit movies, view the latest viral videos, catch up on TV shows and stay connected to social networks.  Pre-loaded apps include:- YouTube, Hula Plus, VUDU, SlingPlayer, Spotify, Pandora and Facebook.

The WD TV Media Player does come along with a remote, but this can be difficult to use especially when punching in movie or song titles (think of the old sms system where 3 pushes of one button would give you your desired letter – time consuming!), making the process easier is the WD TV Remote app.  The WD TV Remote app improves the navigation for WD TV users by turning their iPhone, iPod touch, iPad or Android compatible mobile device into an advanced feature remote control for their media player.

Of course, not only is the WD TV good to view movies and listen to music from the various pre-loaded apps, it is also a device used to view your personal media such as photos, video and music.  In fact, any media file stored on USB or storage device can be streamed direct to your TV through the WD TV and supported formats include MKV, MP4, AVI, WMV, MOV and more.  Compatible storage devices include My Passport Ultra, My Book and My Cloud as well as digital camcorders or cameras or any networked PC or Mac computer in the home.

Adding to this, the WD TV also supports Miracast, so users can project their Miracast enabled mobile device onto their TV in up to Full HD 1080p.

Overall, we enjoyed how easy the WD TV Media Player is to connect and get up and running in very little time.  The supported formats for our personal media is good, thus enabling the whole family to view and share their media files.  Being a music and music video loving family, we enjoyed the Spotify and YouTube pre-installed apps.  The accompanying WD TV remote does make navigation difficult and tiresome but by simply downloading the WD TV Remote app makes for a much more enjoyable and ease of use experience.

WD TV is available at select retailers throughout Singapore and online at wdstore.com.sg priced at S$169.

The WD TV Remote app is is available to download for free from the App Store and Google Play.
