HEALTHY, HAPPY, STRONG AND ACTIVE : HOW ONE MAMA DOES IT

You may have read our recent post regarding maintaining bone health and the importance of caring and taking the right diet to help keep bones healthy and strong.  You can read that article HERE.

We all know how busy Moms are, not only keeping our kids happy and healthy but we need to be healthy, happy, strong and active to survive the daily life as a Mama.  Following on from our interview with Nutritionist and Mobility Advocate at Fonterra, Joanne Todd, we talked to Mama, Angela Wee who gives us a sneak peek into how she stays healthy and active, for herself and her two kids.

How to be a healthy and active Mama by Angela Wee.

Angela is a 35 year old mother to 2 beautiful kids and is currently breastfeeding her youngest son.  When she is not busy being a Mom and working as a tutor at an enrichment centre, Angela takes to the water to enjoy wakeboading and enjoys the thrills of horror movies, likes to bake and tells us that adding ANLENE to her diet has made her more healthy, stronger and her energy levels have certainly increased.

How does Anlene fit into your daily diet and how much Anlene would you take on a regular day?
I would take a glass of Anlene first thing in the morning, and just before I go to bed after my last pumping session. Sometimes in the day if I am feeling hungry, I will make a glass of Anlene for tea break too but usually at least 2 cups a day.

You are currently breastfeeding so, during pregnancy and breastfeeding should we increase our Anlene intake?
Definitely! Pregnancy and breastfeeding takes a lot of nutrients from the mother’s body so it is important to make sure you replenish them to prevent problems such as osteoporosis later in life. My mother was diagnosed with early stage of osteoporosis few years ago so I know the importance of sufficient calcium intake. Especially for me, since I am still breastfeeding my 2-month old toddler, I make sure that I take multivitamins every day and Anlene takes care of my calcium needs.

What is your preferred way of taking Anlene and could you share a favourite recipe that is enriched with Anlene?
I love drinking milk so my preferred way of taking Anlene will be to have a big cup of it for breakfast and during every milk pumping session. The warm milk helps a lot in the pumping and I can get more milk for my boy! When I cook curry for my family for dinner, I would also replace coconut milk with Anlene. Healthier choice yet the taste is not compromised as Anlene has a nice creamy taste. When I bake cupcakes for my children, I would use Anlene instead of fresh milk and sometimes when I drink coffee, instead of using creamer, I will add a scoop of Anlene to give it a milky taste.

Before adding Anlene to your diet, how did your all round health and bone health, and energy differ?
I was very active before I got pregnant with my first child. I would wakeboard every week, sometimes twice a week, and was in the NTU IVP team in 2006-2007.I would also go for muay thai once a week. After my pregnancy, I realised that I became weaker. I would get frequent backaches after carrying my boy for long hours. After increasing my calcium intake by drinking Anlene, my backaches are better now and I have more energy to get me through the day. Now, even though I am looking after 2 kids on my own, I am able to chase after them and still not feel tired at the end of the day. Just last month, I even brought them to Universal Studios Singapore all on my own!
