SHAKESPEARE’S GLOBE THEATRE WILL PERFORM A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM IN SINGAPORE THIS NOVEMBER
To coincide with the 450th Anniversary of Shakespeare’s birth, ABA Productions will be bringing A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, performed by Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, to Singapore’s Esplanade Theatre this November 13 to November 16.
Singapore’s audiences will be treated to the original production of this Shakespeare classic, employing Renaissance costumes and staging, directed by the talented Dominic Dromgoole, Artistic Director at the Globe Theatre.
As well as A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Dromgoole has directed Shakespeare’s Henry V, Hamlet, Love’s Labour’s Lost, Romeo and Juliet and Anthony and Cleopatra.
Executive Producer, Matthew Gregory says, “This is an absolutely classic production full of poetry and imagination and I cannot wait to delight a whole new audience here in Singapore.”
What the reviews say:-
“Dominic Dromgoole’s lively affectionate and consistently inventive staging beautifully captures both the humor and the disconcerting strangeness of the play” – The Telegraph
“The course of true love never did run smooth”
Hermia loves Lysander and Helena loves Demetrius – but Demetrius is supposed to be marring Hermia… When the Duke of Athens tries to enforce the marriage, the lovers take refuge in the woods and wander into the midst of a dispute between the king and queen of the fairies.
Don’t miss out on this absolute classic which incorporates Shakespeare’s most dazzling dramatic poetry in its teasing, glittering, hilarious and amazingly inventive play. The seriousness is only fleetingly glimpsed beneath its dreamlike surface!
