No less than 100 dogs from various Singapore shelters were up for adoption at the National Geographic Channel’s (NGC) Free Pet Shop event on the 4th – 5th May. This was NGC’s second Free Pet Shop event and it brought together people from all over Singapore, united in their love for man’s best friend.
It was a wonderful couple of fun-filled days for both attendees and dogs, as celebrities such as Magdalene See, Karen Lim and Andrew Lua came along to help find loving families for as many of the dogs as possible. Not one dog was left out of the event, as games were arranged and mix-breed dogs (fondly referred to ‘Singapore Specials’) enjoyed a special mention, with welcome attention to their uniqueness and varied stories.
Children were welcome to meet with shelter professionals, watch the dogs having a field day and discover more about animal welfare in Singapore. The value of this first-hand experience witnessing so many different dogs in a safe arena and learning about responsible interaction should not be underestimated.
Dogs can be an incredible addition to any family…they can teach our children to be kinder, more conscientious and loving little individuals! Not only this, studies have found that owning a dog can also increase your child’s immunity to pet-related allergies.
Though you may have missed out on this exciting event, keep your eyes peeled for NGC’s next one…who knows, you may even head home with an adorable new family member!
