‘JOY TO FLY’ – SILKIER FLIES WITH A NEW SOPHISTICATED NEW LOOK FOR CABIN CREW

Keeping it Singaporean, local air carrier SilkAir (regional subsidiary of Singapore Airline) engaged local fashion designer Alexandria Chen to design its fourth and latest cabin crew uniform.  The airline will be rolling out the new cabin crew uniform on 15 April 2015.  The latest uniform change is SilkAir’s fourth change over 26 years representing how the airline has evolved over the years and has grown in sophistication as the regional wing of Singapore Airlines, providing connectivity to both leisure and business destinations across the Asia Pacific region.

Homegrown designer Alexandria Chen graduated from NAFA and is known for her fashion label “Alexandria Chen”, a label for the confident urban women.  She has worked with many hospitality brands to design their uniforms and has put many thoughts into the uniform design.  Taking into consideration and inspiration from SilkAir’s service and practicality into her design, Alexandria created a classy appeal that pairs a touch of vibrancy to reflect the youthfulness in passengers can expect.  The new SilkAir uniform is stylishly cut and fitted at the waistline which makes it easy to wear, flexible and comfortable, allowing the stewardesses the ease of movement as they carry out their duties.

The one-piece dress in aqua – blue for junior crew portrays a calming effect that reflects sincerity and warmth- while the plum-red for senior crew – signifies reliability and trustworthiness – accompanied by a dark blue skirt was inspired by SilkAir’s attention to their reliable trustworthy, thoughtful service with a touch of surprise and their affiliation to Singapore Airlines.  The asymmetric neckline gives a polished and refined look with a touch of modernity and style, the sleeve pleats gives a touch of the airline’s attention to their thoughtful and precise service.  The seagull patterned georgette bow pin adds a feminine sophistication and SilkAir’s identity to the final look.

SilkAir travels to 49 destinations and 12 countries, new uniform in the year Singapore turns 50 indicates how SilkAir has grown as Singapore grows!
