All these years, I have never really liked watching fighting but I must say I really enjoyed myself when I went to the ONE FC™ (ONE Fighting Championship – check it out at www.onefc.com ). ONE FC™ is the brainchild of Victor Cui launched in 2011.
This particular event “Rise of Kings” was a triple World Championship and I was there with friends to root for Shinya Aoki from Japan, also known as Tōbikan Jūdan (The Grand Master Of Flying Submissions). Aoki represents Evolve MMA based here in Singapore. He has a record of 38 MMA fights with 31 wins of which 21 were by way of submission. He is a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo and also an A-Class Shootist (all are different fighting styles / techniques).
The dramatic entrance of each fighter was well thought out and I must say they were extremely entertaining. I felt like I was going to 16 mini concerts; 16 fighters took part and their entrances engaged the audience to dance and cheer in their seats.

The fights were really exhilarating and I found most of them nail bitingly exciting. There were times when the crowd collectively held its breath when the fighters were stuck in the Guillotine chokes; it felt as if any form of noise or movement could cause the fighters to be distracted and lose hold of the choke. The crowd would roar when the guillotine was broken and the fighters zoom in for the kill with the punches. I found it really violent when the fighters engaged in violent fist punches when a fighter falls from a small mistake. In honest truth, the fighters were all very skillful and they were just waiting for the other opponent to make that mistake to fall and zoom in for the kill… somehow it felt like a predator in the wild … waiting for the victim to falter.
True to that, dream superstar lightweight champ Aoki topped all the fighters when he speedily won his fight against French fighter Arnaud Lepont. The win came by way of a submission after 1m 25s of the first round via a triangle choke having initially stood up to the renowned striking power of his opponent. I was very impressed and I heard myself rooting for Aoki and punching my fist in the air!

Watching these fighters reminded me that I should try to take up some form of self-defense to protect myself against possible violence. I hope to bring Bub to martial arts class at Evolve MMA when he turns 4 so that both of us can bond through martial arts and keep fit as well.
