SilkAir (regional subsidiary of Singapore Airline) recently introduced a new flight route between Singapore and Semarang (SRG) on 29th July 2013. There are currently only two carriers that flies direct from Singapore to Semarang; namely SilkAir and Air Asia.
The inaugural flight MI 102 departed from Singapore at 8.45am and arrived at Semarang’s Achmad Yani International Airport at 9.55am. Mr. Leslie Thng, Chief Executive of SilkAir was onboard this flight.
Passengers on board this inaugural flight were presented with inaugural flight certificates personally signed by Mr Leslie Thng and the flight commander, Captain John Lee SJ; and also Si Podang (the official Indonesian Tourism mascot for Central Java). In addition, the passengers also received the SilkAir notebooks as souvenirs.
A press conference was held after a water canon welcomed the landing aircraft carrier. The conference was attended by Bapak Bibit Waluyo (Governor of Central Java), Mr Anil Kumar Navar (Singapore Ambassador to Jakarta Embassy), Indonesian Airport Authorities and many other industry partners and members from the media.
SilkAir flies from Singapore to Semarang thrice weekly on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Semarang is one of cities listed on SilkAir’s list of Indonesian Destinations. SilkAir has flights to other Indonesian cities such as Bandung, Manado, Medan, Surabaya, Solo, Pekanbaru, Balikpapan, Palembang and Lombok.
