MANULIFE SINGAPORE SPONSORS THE NATIONAL WATER SAFETY PROGRAME, SWIMSAFER
We all know how important water safety knowledge is to our children. Not only in unattended swimming pools but also rivers, park ponds and the open sea there pose potential drowning risks everywhere. We can all warn our bubbas of these risks but it’s a relief to know that the national water safety programme, SwimSafer is carried out at all 25 ActiveSG swimming complexes island wide and is there to pass the stronger message onto our bubbas.
ActiveSG was launched in April 2014 and is the national movement for sport, ActiveSG aims to create a sporting ecosystem that provides innovative and experiential sport related programs at sports centers island wide. It is a key recommendation of Vision 2030.
SwimSafer is one of the many activities that come under the umbrella of ActiveSG, a key element of the Vision 2030 sports master plan. SwimSafer is an ongoing initiative that imparts children with water safety knowledge and water survival skills and has recently took Manulife Singapore onboard as it’s presenting sponsor. Manulife Singapore sponsors the national water safety programme, SwimSafer and becomes the first corporation to sponsor a national water safety programme as it commits some S$1 million to the programme.
To date, SwimSafer has certified over 80,000 students and, now with the partnership of Manulife Singapore, ActiveSG will bring its SwimSafer programme to reach a wider community and schools in Singapore over the next three years.
On top of its sponsorship of S$900,000, Manulife is committed to pumping in additional resources that aim to engage students on water safety in a more fun manner by producing skits and souvenirs that complement the outreach programmes conducted by ActiveSG.
