Get Set for Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Kids Virtual Race

This June holiday, parents will have the chance to keep their child fit and healthy as the event organiser of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) will be holding a Kids Virtual Race (VR) on their Virtual Club platform.

The event will be organised from 31 May to 30 June and will allow a registered child to take part in four races – each with varying distances – and compete with other children from Singapore and the rest of the world. As it is a virtual event, participants can run safely anytime (within the race period) and anywhere, and their results will be recorded on the Virtual Club platform.

Studies have shown that running regularly has numerous health benefits for children, such as reducing stress, boosting creativity and improving attention span. Besides keeping them fit and active (and getting time off their fun devices), the Kids VR event will also be a great family bonding activity as parents get to run alongside their child and encourage them to complete the distances. It could even be a wonderful adventure like this Dreamworks series.

Here’s how to participate:

  1. Parents must help their child set up a Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Virtual Club account via this link. Registration is FREE!
  2. Get outside (adhering to the necessary social distancing measures, of course!) or hop on a treadmill.
  3. Make sure their Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon Virtual Club account is connected to a participating running app (e.g. Nike+, Garmin)
  4. Complete all four races within the stipulated dates below (walk or light jog works too).

Parents can the share their child’s achievement on social media with the hashtag #SCSMVC. I am a single mother living in Singapore. I am an advocate of living a healthy lifestyle through exercise; eating right; keeping a positive and youthful outlook of life; and, to live vicariously while you can. When not spending time watching Bubba grow, I am catching up on the latest news and entertainment gossip. I strongly believe that empowerment is possible for anyone, as long as they believe in themselves and the people around them.
