FIRST EVER DOCTOR WHO GLOBAL PUBLICITY TOUR
We are very excited by this never-been-done-before Doctor Who Global Tour. After the success of last year’s 50th Anniversary celebrations for The Doctor, BBC Worldwide’s ambition for the Doctor Who BBC Programme brand has grown considerably and they are set to embark on this Doctor Who Global Tour.
When Doctor Who celebrated it’s 50th year, the special episode ‘The Day of the Doctor’ was broadcast simultaneously in 98 countries and in over 1500 cinemas across the world, setting a new record for event cinema in its first 3 days on general release.
Our Editor, Clare Victoria, tells us how, growing up in the UK, she was one of those kids who NEVER missed an episode of Doctor Who Television Programme (despite hiding behind the sofa when the Daleks came into shot)! Of course, Clare wanted her kids to be huge Doctor Who Television Programme fans too. But living in France and Singapore meant having the series shipped over because the show didn’t travel out of the UK.
The Doctor WHO Global tour will kick off in Cardiff, Wales before taking to London (UK), Seoul (South Korea), Sydney (Australia), New York (USA), Mexico City (Mexico) and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil). Chief Brands Officer at BBC Worldwide, Amanda Hill, tells how they were “bowled over by the global reaction to the 50th episode last year and it was decided, the best way to introduce the new Doctor Who would be to take the team around the globe“.
We think this is such a great way to introduce Doctor WHO BBC Programme to the world and we are very happy to get to know the new Doctor Who, Peter Capaldi, along with his assistant Jenna Coleman and Executive Producer, Steven Moffat as they set flight in the TARDIS to conquer 5 continents in just 12 days.
