Act 3

EXHIBITION, PERFORMANCE, DRAMA WORKSHOP AND VISUAL ARTS ACTIVITIES FOR 4 – 8 YEAR OLDS

This June, enroll the kids into a place where they can perform, learn and enjoy.

ACT 3 Drama Acedemy are running holiday workshops this June based on the witty ditty ‘There was an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly’.  Held twice daily from 11 to 17 June 2014, this 90-minute session is specially curated for 4 to 8 year olds and comprises four key elements – exhibition, performance, drama workshop and visual arts activities.

“Poor old lady, she swallowed a fly.

I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

Poor old lady, I think she’ll die.

Poor old lady, she swallowed a spider.

It squirmed and wriggled and turned inside her.

She swallowed the spider to catch the fly.

I don’t know why she swallowed a fly.

Poor old lady, I think she’ll die….”

The ridiculous, yet lovable storyline of a woman who swallowed a fly, who then swallowed something else to eat the fly (and so on) will keep little ones enthralled with its remarkable ideas.  This much-loved rhyme serves as a springboard for a myriad of arts-related adventures, making it a perfect setting for children to play, dream, create and make believe.  All these seek to enhance communication and sensory skills – altogether an extremely enriching process for the child.

Exhibition and visual arts activities is an extensive 2-D wall mural by artist Siti Jalleh that will showcase what might have been the ‘Old Woman’s’ kitchen.  Children will be encouraged to bring out their inner artist and add to the evolving artwork.  A further art exhibition, 3D of food and animal-inspired items will be there for children to finish off too.

Performance and drama workshop features a one-woman play by Frances Lee where children will be treated to a 1 1/2 hour interactive performance and a taste of the theatre.
