TIPS AND LIFE-HACKS : 8 LAUNDRY HACKS FOR BUSY MOMS
Do you feel like your laundry basket never empties? Or often find yourself drowning under a huge load of dirty laundry left behind by your kids? Laundry doesn’t have to be a dreaded chore! Let these laundry life-hacks ease your load and maximise your machine, so you can be more efficient and focus on the more enjoyable things in life.
1.Choose a machine with streamlined features
The laundry process doesn’t just start and end with throwing items of clothing into the washing machine. Choose laundry machines with features that simplify your entire laundry process. For example, new machines on the market often offer an anti-crease cycle, allowing for lesser ironing time.
2. Machines with larger load capacity = less time
Whether you’re a multi-generational family, or a smaller family with just the one child, washing in larger loads not only cuts down the hassle of having to load the washing machine daily, but also saves on energy costs. When picking out a machine assess your regular laundry load so you can determine the machine capacity you need, and look out for those that have a shorter complete wash program.
3. Descale regularly
Over time, harmful limescale can be formed in hard water areas, so descaling should be done every three months. This allows for your machine to last longer and be used more efficiently.
4. Lower the temperature
Turn the temperature down, as washing temperatures of 30 degrees is sufficient to reduce germs by a factor of 1000. Saving energy and saving money for your family.
5. Don’t overload
The perfect washing experience starts with using the proper washing load. A full washing load is equivalent to filing the whole drum for regular washing and 3/4 drum when washing curtains, towels and bedding items. Never overload the machine; this will prevent bacteria accumulation and formation of odour in the appliance and clean laundry.
6. Wash the soap-box
It is critical to prevent build-up of bacteria and undissolved detergents by washing the detergent dispenser after every wash.
7. Show your machine some TLC
Appliances, like people, need a little TLC. Remember to take care of i be letting your machine undergo a 90degreeC maintenance wash every month to avoid limescale and odours. It is recommended to use the ‘drum clean’ or ‘cotton 90degreesC’ program if your machine has one.
8. Know your fabrics
Different fabric types have different degrees of sensitivity. to retain the laundry’s original look for longer, separate laundry accordingly when tumble drying. Rule of thumb, cottons to heavy load, drapes to light load and synthetics separately.
