This April, ArtScience Museum Singapore commemorates World Autism Awareness Day with two special programmes designed to celebrate everyone’s individuality!
Join in a virtual panel discussion to learn more about autism acceptance and the misconceptions surrounding the autism spectrum. The Museum has also developed a hands-on activity that sees participants colouring their own Koinobori and finding out more about the Japanese carp windsock through an engaging story-telling session.
Meanwhile, ArtScience On Screen presents a series of short films on facing crises as we observe a year since the Circuit Breaker in Singapore. From a Wes Anderson-inspired quirky animation on mistaken identities to a short time-lapse documentary on the lives of plants, these films explore the anxieties and remedies of being stuck in a state of unknowing; charting stories that allow for connection and contemplation in these uncertain times.

The autism spectrum is often viewed through a lens of bias and misunderstanding, resulting in people on the autism spectrum being pressured to conform instead of being encouraged to thrive. Through a panel of speakers, they discuss autism acceptance and learn about the misconceptions surrounding the autism spectrum.

This programme is organised to celebrate World Autism Awareness Day. Children of all abilities are invited to play together and create artworks via their artistic expressions.
2. ArtScience on Screen
One Year On
1 – 30 April | 10am, 11.15am at Expression Gallery, Level 4
This April, we observe one year since Singapore’s Circuit Breaker through a series of touching short films on facing crises. From a Wes Anderson-ish quirky animation on mistaken identities to a short time-lapse documentary on the lives of plants, these films explore the anxieties and remedies of being stuck in a state of unknowing; charting stories that allow for connection and contemplation in these uncertain times.
Free admission and visitors are encouraged to pre-book their seats online due to limited capacity at the ArtScience Museum.
All five short films will be screened back-to-back in each session. Walk-ins are accepted on a first-come-first-serve basis, subject to venue capacity. This programme is rated PG and runs for 45 minutes.
Film line-up:
Night Garden (2019) – Kyath Battie (Canada) | 6 min
Battie captures the isolation of living with a terminal illness through a series of telephone conversations with her mother, who tries to reconcile facing cancer for the fourth time.
Pripyat Piano (2020) – Eliška Cílková (Czech Republic) | 18 min
Cílková creates a musical ode to the remaining pianos in Pripyat, a town that has been abandoned for thirty years after the Chernobyl tragedy.
Cat Days (2018) – Jon Frickey (Germany, Japan) | 11 min
Jiro feels sick. His father takes him to see the doctor, who diagnoses a harmless case of the cat flu and deduces that Jiro must be a cat. Frickey’s painterly style breathes life into this quirky animated short about identity crisis.
Murmurations (2020) – Xavi Bou (Spain) | 3 min
Bou visualises the beauty of bird flight paths in this mesmerizing short film that captures the dance-like movements of starlings in winter.
Helios (2018) – Eric Stewart (USA)| 5 min
Featuring time-lapses of cacti and succulent over the course of a year on 16mm film, Helios is a tender documentation on the lives of plants.
3. Workshops at the ArtScience Museum
Make Your Own: Reusable Bag
2 Apr | 6pm – 7pm @ Rainbow Room, Basement 2
- $5 per participant.
- Up to 20 participants on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested participants are highly encouraged to pre-book their tickets online.
As we find more ways to reduce our plastic footprint, why not join us for a Make Your Own: Reusable Bag session as we upcycle and transform plastic bags into personalised, reusable bags for your next shopping trip!
Make Your Own Tut: Drop-in session
24 Apr | 10am, 11.30am, 3pm, 4.30pm @ Rainbow Room, Basement 2
- This one-hour workshop is complimentary with limited slots available
- Online pre-booking of tickets is required.
- Suggested age group: 7 years old and above. Parents/guardians are advised to accompany the child for the session.
This is a hands-on workshop from ArtScience Museum that encourages young visitors to create their own version of everybody’s favourite sea turtle, Tut. Get creative and explore ways to upcycle discarded materials, giving them a new life in this fun craft session.
At the end of the workshop, participants get to bring their turtles home and continue to spread the message of change.
4. Exhibitions at the ArtScience Museum
Planet or Plastic?
From now till 25 April (Closing soon!)
Planet or Plastic?shines a spotlight on the fragility of the natural environment as a result of the global plastic waste crisis. Featuring 70 powerful images from photographers around the world, the exhibition tells the story behind plastic from its invention just over a century ago to its mass consumption today.
The ArtScience Museum endeavours to raise awareness of society’s dependence on plastic by visually depicting the global plastic waste crisis and highlighting the innovative individuals and communities who are working on solutions to this urgent problem. The show also builds upon National Geographic’s multi-year global initiative aimed at reducing the amount of single-use plastic that reaches the ocean, so consumers will be inspired to shop greener.
STAR WARS™ Identities: The Exhibition at the ArtScience Museum

Find your force at ArtScience Museum’s latest exhibition STAR WARS Identities: The Exhibition.
This is the final chance for visitors to see the extensive collection of close to 200 original Star Wars items from Lucasfilm Archives before the end of its global tour. Embark on an interactive identity quest to gain new insights on Star Wars characters while discovering what force will shape your own identity.
FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science

Immerse yourself in a world of art, science, magic and metaphor through a collection of digital interactive installation at Future World. This permanent exhibition from the ArtScience Museum gives visitors a fantastic point of view through four key themes – City in A Garden, Sanctuary, Park and Space.
5. ArtScience Museum’s late-night opening on Fridays and Saturdays
Visitors will now have more time to explore and enjoy the great offerings at the ArtScience Museum Marina Bay Sands as it extends its opening hours on Fridays and Saturdays till 9 pm (with last admission at 8 pm).
