Review: Skinny Pizza for Bubbas!

Breakfast Bake, $10
Breakfast Bake, $10

After feeding so many of us loyally with low-carb pizzas and delicious pastas, Skinny Pizza introduced some worldly flavours last October. To Mamas and Papas’ delight, Skinny Pizza has created a menu only for Bubbas.

The Breakfast Bake ($10) is comforting dish of cheesy velvety mash and baked eggs, topped with savoury chicken chipolata sausages and baked beans. This teething-toddler-friendly dish is packed with flavours and colours to keep Bubbas happy throughout the meal. Bubba Emma enjoyed the mash a lot!

Saucy Mac and Cheese, $12

The saucy Mac and Cheese ($12) is a generous serving of baked pasta, crowned with flavourful meatballs.

Waffles with Scrambled Eggs, Bacon, Luncheon Meat Fries and Tomatoes ($12) was hardly saved by scrambled eggs and tomatoes, which made up a little for the lack of moisture in the entire dish.

If Bubba’s craving for some burgers, the Fish and Chips Sliders ($14) is not the answer. A pair of mini home-made fish patties, topped with fries, mayo, ketchup and Emmental cheese summed up to a uninspiring rendition of a classic. Coming from a well-established food haven, this new addition only spells disappointment.

The Chunky Monkey French Toast with Bananas and Orange Honey,  $14

The Chunky Monkey French Toast with Bananas and Orange Honey ($14) comes with pan-fried homemade brioche slathered with Nutella, caramelised bananas, orange-infused honey and popcorn for a bite. This packed more sugar that I could possible crave for in a week.

The wide array of colourful makers at Skinny Pizza kept Bubba Emma busy, designing her own pizza on drawing papers, before the food came. The accommodating staff and high chairs created a friendly environment for kids. However, while it is easy to simply give kids fried and sweet foods, a lot more can be done to add more flavour and nutrition to the choices made available for them. With a name like Skinny Pizza, I was expecting a pizza for little adults and meals that would set itself apart from the rest. I’d stick to sharing pizzas with Emma for a while.

The kids’ menu is only available at their Great World City and Westgate outlets.  All kids’ meals come with a glass of freshly-squeezed Vitamin C-packed orange juice.
