When I realized I was pregnant after my boyfriend and I broke up, I didn’t know what to do or how to feel. All I know was as a single mother in Singapore, I would not be given much financial support or benefits and that is going to be a tough journey for both my son and I.
I was very blessed to get a lot of help from my family, friends and my cell group, and I drew strength from them. Not many single mothers are as fortunate as I, and so I started blogging. I want to share my journey, and I hope that other women in my position can gain strength from my story.
As a single mother, it is a challenge to give my son the best life he can have, and yet, not lose my identity as a woman and my own person. To be honest, now that my son is over a year old, I realized I have not changed much, apart from spending more time with him instead of going out. Single mothers can have a life. Thanks to my wonderful family, especially my mother, my sisters and their husbands and children, who form my support system, I can still be Katherine *cue Jennifer from the block*- I still do the stuff I used to do in my motherhood, I read, watch movies, go to pilates classes, attend church and cell group, even chill out with friends after work once in a while.
I hope this blog will inspire all women- single moms or not- to find time to take good care of themselves to enjoy many precious “happyments” with their family and loved ones.
